Meet Deborah Amedeka

Hello! I'm delighted to have the opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Deborah, a 19-year-old Ghanaian American girl currently pursuing my passion for nursing at the University of Illinois Chicago. My journey encompasses a diverse array of interests, from healthcare to entrepreneurship, advocacy, and community engagement.

From a young age, I've been drawn to the idea of serving others, which led me to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Currently, I dedicate my time to providing in-home care for the elderly, children, and disabled, where I witness firsthand the profound impact of compassion and support on individuals' lives. It's a humbling experience that constantly reinforces my commitment to the nursing profession.

In addition to my studies and healthcare work, I also run a makeup business called glamwithdeb, which I've cultivated on Instagram. This venture allows me to express my creativity while connecting with individuals who share a passion for beauty and self-care. Through glamwithdeb, I strive to empower others to feel confident and embrace their unique identity.

Beyond academics and entrepreneurship, I am involved in my school's African Student Association and Black student organizations .I actively contribute to creating a vibrant community that celebrates African culture and fosters inclusivity. It's a platform where I can share my heritage, learn from others, and promote cross-cultural understanding.

One of my core values is continuous self-improvement, both personally and professionally. I firmly believe in the importance of mental health and advocate for accessible resources and support services. Whether through professional initiatives or community outreach, I am dedicated to destigmatizing mental health issues and promoting holistic well-being.

Looking ahead, my aspirations extend beyond academic achievements. I envision myself as a compassionate nurse, dedicated to providing culturally sensitive care and advocating for marginalized communities. Whether it's through clinical practice, research, or community outreach, I am committed to making a meaningful difference in people's lives. As I continue to pursue my education and expand my horizons, I remain steadfast in my dedication to serving others, embracing diversity, and advocating for positive change.
