Student Examples

We are here to take some of the mystery out of college admissions. Below are examples of real students, provided to us by college admissions representatives at Louisiana colleges. These examples help to visualize what the difference is between an admittance and a denial from the perspective of the institution. Note that each student is handled on a case by case basis.

More tips from louisiana college admissions representatives:

  • Schedule an in-person visit whenever possible. It is not only beneficial for your decision-making process, but also gives you something to comment on in your “Why this school” essays and shows interest in the university.

  • Thoroughly investigate the programs and extracurriculars that the school offers, as well as the general status of the university. (You can use our college info page to help do this!)

  • For universities like LSU, if student has a GPA below 3.4, the university will request Mid-Year grades to see if there are improvements between junior and senior year. (Private colleges and Ivy League universities use different methods).

  • GPA is extremely important. Do NOT take AP, Honors, or higher difficulty courses if it will hurt your GPA in the long run.

  • Admissions Counselors are assigned to most schools and know the academic environment there. For example, academically rigorous high schools such as the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts may have a lower GPA, but are still more than likely to get admitted as the material is deemed more challenging.

  • Always utilize your admissions essay. The only way in which it can hurt you is if you display rude, obnoxious, or uppity characteristics about yourself.
